20 Bank Street

The next scrap of paper was found up inside of the lid of Grandma's Recipe Box.

It reads:  "Gig - artist"

and includes the address of Colonial Studios found at 20 Bank Street in White Plains NY.

Does anyone know more about this history of this art studio and what this refers to? Please contact me if you do.

I looked up the business, but if it is still in existance, it is no longer located at this address.

Instead, I found a high-end, corporate, temporary furnished appartment complex located at 10-46 Bank Street.

Google map of the address.

Bank Street Commons, presently at this address.

Sardines, Anyone?

This was found in Grandma's recipe box as a label that was apparently saved from the top of a sardine can. The first recipe is for a snack  "Rye Bread Savories".  This scrap of paper jumped out of the box by itself, which is why it included here now.  (Not because I like sardines, for sure!  Apparently Grandma did!). The second is for a salad.  Yummo!

Rye Bread Savories
On buttered rye bread place a piece of crisp lettuce and tope with an assortment of the following: KING OSCAR sardines, hard boiled eggs, mayonnaise, chives, tomatoes. A delicious snack for a light lunch or suppertime.

Sardine and Tomato Salad
1 can KING OSCAR sardines, drained                          watercress
2 peeled tomatoes                                                           1/3 unpeeled cucumber, sliced
1/2 cup diced celery                                                        French dressing

Wacky Cake

No egg or milk cake.
1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon vinegar
5 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup cold water

Sift dry ingredients together twice. Second time sift directly into a greased pan, making three holes in mixture. Add the oil, vinegar and vanilla, one in each hole.  Over all, pour 1 coup of cold water. Sitr until blended. Bake in 350 degree for 30 minutes.  Frost with powdered sugar.
